Step 1: Prep lips with a lip balm.
- Use a small amount and rub into lips well. Let it sit a few minutes.
Step 2: Choose your lip color.
- Most skin tones look best in cool-based colors (berries, plums and mauves).
Autumn Moon Lip colors are designed to look great on most skin tones, so don't be afraid to experiment!
- Cool toned colors can make teeth appear whiter.
- Warm toned colors look great on olive or tan skin tones.
Step 3: Choose your texture.
- Matte textures have the longest staying power and can give a more dramatic
look, depending on application.
- Sheer textures are lighter and somewhat glossy and give a sheer wash of
color.
- Creme colors offer a light, smooth finish.
- Gloss gives a dramatic shine and can make lips appear fuller.
Step 4: Apply lip liner.
- With a lip liner, draw a line around the natural shape of your lips. Drawing
outside the natural lip line looks artificial.
- Do not use a darker liner with a light lip color. This is a very dated look.
- For a natural look, use a lip liner that is the shade of your natural lip.
- For a more dramatic look, use a color the same shade as the lip color you
are using. Soften the line with a cotton swab when finished applying.
- For extra staying power, you can fill in the entire lip area with the liner. This
can also create a whole new look by changing the color and tone of your lip color.
- Lip liner can help lipstick from bleeding onto your skin.
Step 5: Apply Lip Color
- With a lip brush (for lipstick) or a wand for lip gloss, apply color to the lips.
- For a natural look, apply the lip color to the center of the lips only and blend
outward. This will give a gentle wash of color.
- For a more dramatic look, apply color to the whole lip area.
- For extra lipstick staying power, gently blot with a tissue after the first
application, apply a light dusting of loose translucent powder and reapply.
- For a pouty look, add a dab of gloss in a lighter shade in the center of the
lower lip, over your lipstick and blend.
- For extra drama, you can line your lips again after applying the lip color.
